Bisate Eco Lodge, sitting on a 30-hectare plot, this Eco-Lodge boasts one of the best and awe-inspiring architectural and interior designs, inspired by Rwanda’s traditional building of Royal Palaces hence paying homage to the Rwandan ancient Kingdoms and cultural heritage.
Bisate Lodge is located in the natural amphitheatre of an eroded volcanic cone – the word Bisate means ‘pieces’ in Kinyarwanda, describing how the cone was once whole but worn away by natural erosion.
The area has dramatic views of the peaks of the volcanoes Bisoke, Karisimbi and Mikeno rearing up through the Afro-alpine forests of nearby Volcanoes National Park. Six sumptuous en-suite rooms maximize comfort, warmth and views while retaining environmental principles and reflecting the culture of surrounding rural Rwanda.
Bisate is within easy driving distance of Park Headquarters, from where gorilla treks depart daily. Its vision of reforestation and rehabilitation means that each guest is invited to participate in our biodiversity conservation efforts, as well as engage and meet the local community – in addition to learning about and making a far-reaching positive impact on an iconic Critically Endangered species: the mountain gorilla.
Bisate Lodge is a perfect base for travelers interested in meeting and learning from the local community, tracking the endangered and frisky golden monkeys, tracking the mountain gorillas of Volcanoes National Park, undertaking guided walks through Virunga Mountain slopes, hiking the Dian Fossey gravesite and enjoying the visits to magical Buhanga Eco-Park.
The luxurious Bisate Eco-Lodge officially opened its doors in 2017, hence joining the already existing upmarket Safari Safaris in offering guests unmatched and indescribable stay while tracking the mountain gorillas and golden monkeys, hiking the Virunga Volcanoes, hiking to the Dian Fossey Gravesite, enjoying tours of Musanze Caves or simply vacation in seclusion. Since its launch, Bisate Lodge has been winning award after award, ranking as a top place of Lodging in Africa and now, the most luxurious Eco-Lodge in Africa.
Blending the traditional with the modern, the exquisite guest areas feature floor to ceiling windows through which you can marvel at the world outside while enjoying a refreshing drink at the elegant bar or the contemporary wine cellar. Fusing local Rwandan flavours with contemporary international cuisine, enjoy wholesome farm-to-table dishes including wild honey, avocado, climbing beans, mango, kale, papaya, plantain, passion fruit, pineapple, macadamia nuts and chillies. Fresh produce is sourced from the onsite kitchen garden. A highlight for many is the Rwandan coffee.
